Brazil as capas da Copa
Soccer serves as one of the most beautiful images of Brazil overseas. When Brazil won the Soccer World Cup in Yokohama, Japan, the country was applauded by the whole world. The proof of this recognition is recorded in the book “Capas da Copa” (Cover Pages of the Cup), by the authors Orlando Duarte and Fábio Amaro. The book was released by Cosac Naify, a publisher from São Paulo.
“Capas da Copa” brings together 85 cover pages of newspapers published on the Monday when the world bowed to Brazil: July 1st, 2002, the day after the victory. The book presents cover pages of newspapers from Germany, Australia, the United States, France, Denmark, Marocco, Algeria, Argentina, Japan, Canada, Italy, and many others. Also included are tens of Brazilian cover pages and magazines from all regions of the country.
What does it mean for a country to appear on the cover page of all newspapers and magazines of the world? The first page is the eye-catcher of a newspaper. It is where the best pictures are placed and the summaries of the main news appear; a true route for the reader to find the important news of the edition.
We like to see Brazil in the news headlines around the world. When the world specially applauds and bows to our country. This book was made to be seen and kept, not just by soccer lovers, but for everyone who loves Brazil. “Capas da Copa” is a historical recording of a rare moment for the Brazilian people.

ORLANDO DUARTE was born in 1932 and holds degrees in Journalism and Law. He has covered thirteen World Cup soccer championships and nine editions of the Olympic Games for newspapers, radio and television. He has published many works about sports and about soccer in particular: Todas as Copas do Mundo (Makron. 1987); Pelé, o Supercampeão (Makron, 1994); Todos os Esportes do Mundo (Makron, 1996). He currently produces DVDs, having recently release the series “Os craques”.
FÁBIO AMARO was born in 1977, in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. He is currently a New York-based foreign correspondent for the Brazilian newspaper Hoje em Dia. He is also the author of three other books, printed by the publishing house RHJ: Uma História de Arrepiar (1992); Austrália, uma história para contar (2000); and O Mundo Hoje (2002).

PUBLICADO EN EL DIARIO LA PRENSA DE NUEVA YORK

Autores y libros para todos los gustos
LIBROS - 06/18/2006
Juan Fernando Merino/edlp
